There are two different types of garage doors available to you; tilt-up garage doors and sectional garage doors that roll up. The tilt-up garage door style is comprised of a single panel which pivots out, then up when opened. The sectional roll-up style of garage door is made up of at least four horizontal panels which are hinged together, then mounted along with rollers so that the door can roll straight up, then back.

Tilt-up garage doors tend to cost between 25% and 35% less than roll-up versions. Sectional garage doors are still generally preferred because they are both safer and easier to operate. Additionally, only roll-up garage doors can be opened with cars directly parked in front of them. Sectional garage doors fit behind, which allows them to be significantly more resistant to weather, as well as more secure simply because they cannot be pried open.

There are a variety of materials used for both types of garage doors, and they can both be created in flush, recessed-panel and raised-panel designs. There are many design options that are also available, including the addition of windows, as well as electronic openers. You can order decorative accent window sections which will add daylight to a garage that would otherwise be dark. There are also options for snap-in frames and single or dual glazing for the window glass.

In sectional doors, there is also an option for torsion springs. Extension springs are typically utilized for tilt-up doors which stretch and recoil, and torsion springs which are made up of a shaft spring and a drum assembly are typically much better for doors that are sectional. Torsion springs do a better job of distributing the door?s weight evenly, and will not break or fly off in the same way that an extension spring can. Extension springs may be much more inexpensive, but torsion springs are a great deal safer.

Today?s garage door operators have strong, modern motors and warranties that last a life time. There are always new features available, including photoelectric safety devices, which stop closing doors if a light beam is broken, and transmitters that are small enough to fit onto a keychain. There are also transmitters that only operate based on a personal identification number that is specified by the home owner. Finally, there are remote controls with several buttons that have the capability of operating multiple appliances and lighting fixtures in addition to working the garage door itself.

Garages serve multiple purposes in a household. Garages can be both a car park and a tool shed. Garages can also serve as playrooms for kids and as a work room for a certain hobby. Whatever function your garage serves, there is one key element that your garage should never be without: a good garage storage cabinet.

What should you look for in a good garage storage cabinet?

Here are some important key points to consider when choosing a garage storage cabinet:

Durability Since your garage storage cabinet will be holding equipments, tools and other things which, for some reason you do not want stored in your house, garage storage cabinets have to be made of durable material. Garage storage cabinets have to be strong and sturdy in containing all types of materials whether they be made of metal, iron, and others. Also the more durable the material of your garage storage cabinet, the less likely you will be replacing it within the next few years. This will save you money.

Design Garage storage cabinet design and shape is also important. It has to have a practical shape that goes and fits well along into a corner space. Irregular shaped garage storage cabinets take up more space than a regularly shaped garage storage cabinet.

Space A good garage storage system must have enough holding space capacity for whatever it is you planned to store and organize inside your garage storage cabinet. Otherwise, your new garage storage cabinet will be nothing but another useless waste of space if it can not hold what you intended to put in it.

Cost Your new garage storage cabinet need not be expensive. The internet is full of resources for choosing the best garage storage cabinet to suit your need. A good garage storage cabinet need only meet the first three above criteria. There are a lot of reasonably-priced garage storage cabinets available online from garage storage cabinet manufacturers, garage storage cabinet makers, garage storage cabinet companies and their products need not necessarily have sacrificed quality for its price.

Homeowners! Is your garage used for crafts or hobbies? Are you rebuilding a car? Does old Mr. Frosty prevent you from taking the time you need to enjoy these hobbies on the weekend? The opportunity to keep your garage heated during the cold, winter months awaits you. There are a variety of garage heaters available to meet your every need. Let?s take a look at how to heat a garage in depth.

* One of the most popular units available today is the Enerco Garage Heater. Priced at $349.00, this is one powerful heater perfect for your garage. It can heat up to 500 square feet of garage space and you can read more and compare at our site.

* Another popular model is the Cozy Direct Vent Heater. The durability and safety features have attracted most consumers to give this model two thumbs-up.

* Finally, the 16,380 BTU Electric Garage Heater boasts powerful durability, while rapidly heating your garage. It is best to compare BTUs and other factors.

Of course, these are not the only units available on the market today. You have a choice between gas, electric, and propane units as well. Be sure to check online to determine the appropriate heating unit; based on the size of your garage, wattage needed, ventilation and other safety issues. Research how to heat a garage thoroughly to ensure you are fully educated on the type of unit to install.

Warning: All new garage heaters have to pass stringent safety tests to ensure that fires don’t occur if the heater overheats due to air inlets being covered or blankets or towels falling on the heater. A tilt switch is a good safety feature: it will turn the garage heater off if it tips over.

There’s untapped potential in any garage to make room for more storage. Here are some rules from the pros.

1. CLEAR OUT

Weed out all the junk you don’t need. Keep only what you use; give away what you don’t, and throw away what?s broken and taking up precious space.

2. MAKE A PLAN

Treat your garage like any other room in the house. Take measurements and draw a floor plan to help you visualize what will fit and where it can be placed, just as you would for a kitchen or a dining room.

3. CATEGORIZE

Decide what items you’ll use often, like garbage bags and cleaning supplies. These things should be kept nearest the door. Next, map out space for seasonal equipment: lawn mowers, weed-trimmers, snow blowers, etc. Avoid planting big items, such as lawn mowers, in a corner where they?ll chew up space. Try to park them under a shelf unit. And be sure to clip ladders, shovels, rakes, and other garden tools into a wall rack off the floor.

Finally, get seasonal space hogs such as snow tires, kayaks, and bikes off the floor. These items should be relegated to walls or hung from the ceiling. A hoist pulley system (available at home centers or online) that operates like the cords on window blinds and has clips or straps to hold large items can be installed directly into ceiling joists.

4. CONTAINERIZE

Keeping things in containers not only lets you get them off the floor but keeps them clean. Transparent stackable bins conserve space and also allow you to see their contents. Always label opaque containers so you know what?s inside.

5. SAFETY-PROOF

Designate a safe space for hazardous materials like fertilizers, pesticides, and paint, so kids can?t get into them. Sharp gardening tools should also be hung up out of reach, and chain saws and other sharp tools stored in locked boxes.

Organizing your garage can seem like a never ending task, and many companies take advantage of that by selling you all kinds of storage systems in an attempt to make your garage just a little bit more organized. There are much more inexpensive options for organizational tools, and we are going to share our favorite with you:

Use a dresser to organize your garage?Designate each drawer as a place for one category of supplies, and mark the drawers with an index card, which can be stapled to the front with a staple gun. We have designated one drawer for electrical items, including outlets, outlet covers, wire crimpers, pieces of lamps, testing equipment and anything else we need that relates to electricity. The second drawer is designated for paint supplies, like brushes, rollers, handles for rollers, sand paper, and so on. The third drawer is for nails and screws, which are kept in plastic floss organizers, or fishing tackle organizers. One organizer is used for nails, and the second is used for screws. There is still room in the drawer for whole boxes of nails and screws that are used more often.

Cords are also a problem with us, so we have designated a single drawer just for cords. In there, we have lamp cords, phone wire, cable wire and other cords. You can coil them, and slide them into a toilet-paper roll in order to keep them separate from the other cords. There are also drawers for batteries, glues and adhesives, and light bulbs. There is also a drawer for miscellaneous hardware, which includes felt chair legs, door stops, baby locks and other odds and ends that would not fit very well into the other drawers. There is also a drawer for miscellaneous tools, which includes tools that we do like to use, but certainly do not use every day. This drawer is used mainly for channel locks, socket sets, a wire brush and pipe wrenches.

And do not forget that you can also use the top of your dresser for organizational purposes. We have placed several rectangular plastic ?shoebox? containers on top, and each one holds something different. One holds hammers, another holds screwdrivers, and there is a box for pliers in addition to one for crescent wrenches. There are four or five of them all together, and they hold nearly all of the tools we use on a daily basis.

Think outside of the toolbox!

Did your family get bigger? Does your eldest child wish to have his own space rather than share it with his younger siblings? Do you need an office space so you can work at home? Or are you looking for a new place to host a hang out or a party? Before you decide to tear down a wall to add another square foot of space to your home, you might want to consider remodeling a garage instead.

Remodeling a garage means that you?ll be able to meet all the requirements for space that you?re family needs without having to cost you an arm and a leg that is brought by having to add another room or floor to your home. You will also avoid the hassles and disruption of your everyday life from having workers go in and out of your home while undergoing an addition of space.

A great advantage of remodeling a garage instead of adding another room is that electricity and plumbing often already exist in the room. Pertaining to the structure, the only things to be done are permanently closing-off the garage door and perhaps, opening up a wall to connect the garage to the main home. Whatever you decide to do with the interior walls can redefine the space into a laundry-room, office, bedroom or even a small studio type apartment.

Aside from this advantage, remodeling a garage can also provide numerous benefits. The value of your property can increase because of the increase in useable space without sacrificing the main structure of the home and the landscape of the property. Remodeling a garage also gives you a spacious home without worrying about increased mortgage. A remodeled garage also means that the use of space is more efficient.

Remodeling a garage would be highly recommended rather than having extensions done to your home. Unlike additions, remodeling a garage only takes two to three weeks. Good weather is not a requirement for having to work since the jobs to be done are indoors. Workers would only be going into the main house to make the necessary connections for electricity, water and gas ? meaning, this does little to disrupt your daily activities and you do not have to be away from the house for significant amounts of time.

So before you decide to tear down a wall to add several more square feet to your home, consider your garage first. It can save you a lot of time and money but still give you the satisfaction of having another room built for your use.

Steel was commonly used for garage construction from the early days of 20th century. Steel garage buildings offer an affordable solution for storage needs. With the development of technology, new techniques are incorporated into the construction of steel garages. Steel garages are now available in various attractive designs. ?Do it yourself? readymade kits are the latest trend in steel garages.

Steel garage buildings come in various styles. The common pattern in steel garages is the arch building, in which an arc acts as both the sidewall and the roof. Rigid frame system and straight roof system are other systems. Garages are also designed in patterns such as Sierra, Mohave, Teton, Sonoran and Gambrel. Models A, P, Q, R, T and G are also recommended for garage construction. The panels are galvanized steel in a wide range of colors such as white, brown, ivory, burgundy, patina green, charcoal grey, dark blue or antique bronze.

Custom design steel garage kits are available from manufacturers. Such a kit has to be assembled on site. The pre-engineered steel material is mounted on a suitable foundation. The base rail system is a common foundation for garages. The caisson mounting system is also recommended. The steel structure is inserted on the foundation, and fixed with bolts. End walls and special garage doors are fixed at last. Steel garage buildings also include accessories such as lights, windows, sky lights, truss bracing and cupolas.

Steel garage buildings have unique advantages over traditional buildings. They are economical and easily constructed within a day or two, using minimum labor. Insurance cost is also less since steel is resistant to almost all threats such as fire, hurricane, hails and earthquakes. Steel garages can be easily modified and extended according to the need for more space. The pricing is competitive. The sq ft charge starts from $5.

Steel garage building designs are offered by several designers and builders. Local contractors are available to manage the assembly of steel garages. They ensure durability for the structure with a warranty of up to 30 years. They also provide excellent customer service.

A garage door opener is a mechanical tool, which is used to open and close doors with a remote, and is widely used for remote control single garage doors (Less than 110 sq ft.), installing it is generally easier and safer than installing a garage door. An automatic garage door opener is not just a convenience; it’s an investment in your house, and an important home appliance that will get daily use for many years to come. If your garage door opener is more than ten years old you may want to consider replacing the garage door opener to one with the latest safety features.

An automatic garage door opener is a terrific convenience and it may give you a sense of security as well. As with garage doors the safe operation of your garage door opener is essential in preventing injuries, entrapment or even death.

There are 3 kinds of door openers, the chain drive: As it name states, this kind of mechanism uses a chain to move the door, it is the most popular and affordable device. Its cost varies from 100 USD to 170 USD. The Screw drive: This opener relies on a long threaded bar to open the door. Its cost varies from 150 USD to 200 USD. And the Belt drive: The most expensive of all, priced at 200 USD and up, uses rubber belts to open the door.

Few homeowners know how to install a garage door, or how to install a garage door opener properly without help from a qualified professional, but if you can use a drill, fasten screws, don’t mind working on a ladder and understand some basic wiring, you can install a garage door opener.

You should remember that before you install the garage door opener, make sure that the door is functioning properly and the spring tension is correct, and familiarize yourself with the parts of the assembly.

What are the comparable differences between Epoxy-Coat Cycloaliphatic epoxy and other type of epoxies? The most important differences between floor coating epoxies are listed below:

A. Epoxy-Coat is a 100% solids epoxy. This is a term used to describe the volume solids in a coating system. It is what is left over after the product dries. 100% solids yields 100% dried material after the coating fully dries. 50% volume solids yield 50% of the thickness after the coating fully dries. Most epoxies are 30%-40% volume solids. If you wish to compare the thickness after dried application between Epoxy-Coat and normal epoxies you would need 2.5x the gallons to equal exactly the thickness of 1 gallon of Epoxy-Coat.

Epoxy-Coat is a Cycloaliphatic epoxy. What is a Cycloaliphatic epoxy? It is a type of epoxy. Just like there are types of automobiles that perform differently (and vary in costs) so do epoxies. Not all epoxies are the same. If you wish to apply a high performance floor coating you would want a 100% solids epoxy (to achieve a thickness suitable for proper aesthetics and durability), a high abrasion resistance, a product that would be resistant to yellowing or fading over time, high gloss, highly chemical resistant, impact resistant, 0 VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) for low odor and safety in application in odor and VOC sensitive environments. Most floor coating epoxies are not Cycloaliphatic 100% solids. They are the most expensive to manufacture. They can cost up to 4x the amount of other epoxies to manufacture. Epoxy-Coat is the same quality of epoxy as is used in the most demanding industrial / commercial floors. In fact approx. 60% of industrial / commercial floors use a less quality Aliphatic 100% solids epoxy in their applications.

Are you in the process of selling your home? Have you just purchased a new home? Here are some excellent tips to free up the clutter and cut your moving expenses.

If you?ve just bought a new home, having a garage sale is an excellent way to make a little extra cash while saying goodbye to items you don?t use anymore. The less stuff you have to move, the cheaper it will be, right?

Are you thinking of selling your home? Home stagers will tell you that a clutter-free home looks better in the eyes of a potential buyer. It makes your home look cleaner, and appear larger. This makes it easier for home buyers to envision their furniture in your home. Plus, it can result in a higher offer.

So, you need to have a garage sale, right? Well here are a few tips to get you started.

Allow adequate time to plan and prepare?several weeks. This will give you time to gather those things you no longer need or want, maybe place a print advertisement and make up some signs.

Select the right date so it won?t conflict with holidays or special events. Working in real estate I can tell you, nothing is worse than scheduling an open house, or for this matter a garage sale, on the day of the big football game or other event. Your turn out will suffer greatly!

Bigger is better! The more things you can find for your sale, the greater the turnout will be. People driving by will want to stop to see what all you have to offer.

Practical household goods such as appliances, dishes, furniture and tools are great sellers. Clothing typically doesn?t have a high resale value with the possible exception of children?s clothing that is in good condition.

Items should be clean and if not in working order, they should be labeled accordingly. Think of yourself as the buyer. You would be far more likely to buy something that appeared to be in good condition.

A classified ad in the newspaper listing some of the more desirable items can also greatly increase your traffic.

Use well-created, attractive signs to direct people to your home. The nicer the sign, the more attention it will attract.

You?ll need to have some cash on hand to make change for your customers. This seems obvious but you would be surprised how many times people forget this will all the other planning that goes on.

Visit other garage sales in your area to see what attracted you there, and what works well for them.

Remember, there are a lot of advantages to having a garage sale if you?re in the process of buying or selling a home, but any time is a good time for a garage sale!
